Koi carp
Last Saturday Mrs Mills went to Huntly to bow hunt for koi carp. She was hunting them because they are a pest. They eat native fish and their eggs. They pollute the water by stirring up the mud and it kills native trees. Koi carp can grow up to 80cm and can weigh up to 10kg.
Mrs Mills went bow hunting last weekend because the koi carp were spawning (breeding) and they come into the shallows to do this.
Bow hunting is a sport that requires a bow and arrow. You also need a line attached to the arrow so you can retrieve the fish and arrow. You do not need a license in NZ to bow hunt. It has been around since the Victorian era.
Mrs Mills caught 6 koi carp. She didn’t throw them back into the water because you can receive a fine. She left them on the side of the lake and they were taken by some fishermen.

Which button would you push and why?
I would push the yellow button because If somebody has a secret that shouldn't be kept to themselves then I could find it out. If there was a criminal that was not speaking then I could just read his mind and give information on what is going through his mind.

Tennis for P.E
This Morning room 41 had gone out to play friendly games of tennis, We learn't many skills in the short time given as well as having fun. Over the two periods of tennis our main focus was forehand and backhand. What i found hard was keeping the game going, we would miss the ball so i need to keep my feet moving:)

The smell of air fuel fills the air.
We boarded the plane as usual, The ladies folded their collars and the men loosen their ties as soon as the caption was out of sight. I was doing my usual run on the left giving out lollies to everyone as we started taking air.
Fifteen minutes into the flight three of our crew members were not seen for a good ten minutes,They were old so we assumed they were sleeping or complaining that the passengers were eating their food we had given them. We then realised that men have forcibly breached the cockpit, overpowered the captain and the first officer. licensed commercial pilot, took over the controls. Now we had been down crew members and were unsure what to do. We realized the flight had been hijacked when Foreigners announcements for passengers to stay seated and if anyone was to move they will shoot rapidly. My partners Amy Sweeney and Betty Ong contacted American Airlines, and provided information about the hijackers and injuries to crew. The crew had no access now to the cockpit, so I then just sat down and hoped for the best. I was sitting next to this lady Nellie Casey, 32 years of age, She told me about her 7 month old daughter, and how she meant the world to her. When she said how much they meant to her I knew that this lady had no right to die. The cockpit door opened. three foreign men came out well armed and scanning the room, They seemed as though they were looking for something, Row by row they looked. And then they stopped at me.
“Stand up”, pointing their guns towards the ceiling then back at my feet. I stood up and followed the men to the front. They ripped my crew card of my neck and read my name. “Kathleen Nicosia” The put the gun up to my head and said aloud “The first to leave this world this day on the plane, aren't you glad it’s you” I shut my eyes, prayed to the lord, And for Nellie Casey to live on.
The bullet broke the wind and spun pounding into my chest. My last sight was the nose of the plane crashing into the tower as bodies flew from shattered glass. Screaming as blood ran and tears were shed from faces.

Why bees swarm
Our school drive had a swarm of bee's gathering on the rose bushes, Our teacher decided that we were going to write about (why bee's swarm.
When the queen bee leaves the beehive 60% of the worker bee's follow the queen out, almost working as a shield. They swarm around the queen, and this action is called swarming. These bee's were honey bee's and This occurred at lunch time. The worker bees create queen cups throughout the year. When the hive gets ready to swarm the queen lays eggs into the queen cups.

Norm Hewitt SPCA Assembly
This morning during a special meeting in the gym we had Norm Hewitt come in and present his "one of the family" presentation. He told us how His dad would go out to the pub when He was round seven years of age and get back after seven hours with cold fish and chips for everyone to eat, And if he was in a bad mood he would make a closed fist and beat Norm's mother. his indication to whether his dad was mad or not was the way he slammed or shut the door, If it slammed he knew his mother would be beaten that night. One night his father got so mad that he lined up all seven children and took off his belt, He eyed up Norm and whipped him, He would usually only whip him twice but norm showed no pain so his father carried on whipping. After that night Norm would run out into the paddock and hug his horse pledging that he would never hit or show a fist to his wife, children or anybody.
He told us how pets would help us bond the family together and hopefully stop family violence.

AIMS
AIMS, Association of Intermediate middle schools is held here in Tauranga every year. Last year I was In the Netball Development group, But this year I made it into the netball league team. AIMS is a sporting event hosted here by Tauranga where school across New zealand, Australia and the islands compete at sports. There have been over 6000 competitors this year and over 1000 viewers at the opening ceremony.
It was a great pleasure as I got to perform at the opening ceremony with our school (Boys Choir). We sang the songs we performed at our school production (Stop in the name of love, Sugar pie hunny bunch and In the air tonight.
During this comp my team from netball competed every day.We got Massages and Ice baths. We had one our category but ended up losing our position in the A grade pool. Our placing was 29th out of 83 teams so we weren't too bad.

Dangerous decibels
In today's lesson we had learnt what a dangerous decibel was and a safe decibel was. Since this lesson I will be changing the way I listen to music, talk, play and what kind of environment i'm in. During this lesson I had learnt what a decibel was, It is a way of measuring sound. One fact that I have learnt is that Birds, Frogs and Fish can grow their ear cells back unlike humans that can not, Meaning if you lose your hearing then you don't get it back.
Anything over 90- 120 Is a dangerous level of decibels to be listening to. If you are listening to anything that could make this sound then you need to be cautious of how long you are listening to it for.
Washing machines, Food mixers, Piano playing or rain Is a safe sound to be hearing.
Car traffic decibels are most likely 85 decibels, So you should only be in traffic noise for about 8 hours.
Motorcycles and power tools are 100 decibels, 15 minutes is max.
Mp3 players at it's full volume is 110 or a band practice, 2 minutes is a safe time to be listening to it.
If you listen to these sounds longer than recommended it may cause hearing loss.
We got to experience sounds frequencies and games to show what it's like to have hearing loss.

A most triumphant tale
Tauranga intermediate school has just had their production, A most Triumphant tale. It was months work of singing dancing and acting to put on a high quality Preformance. Wharea carol (mrs Storey ) our music organiser and her assistant Jessica rose had put a lot into this production and we couldn't have done it without them both.
This exhilarating production was a storey about a star man coming from the future to help the band labrinth to get some band members for the band jam off. Labyrinth ( only with two members left ) didn't know that the fate of them loosing the band battle would change music historey forever. Star mans queast is to solve this problem by stopping one dimension ( a lip sinking band ) dance group From making music history into a lip sinking, Dancing NO INSTUMENTS horror.
I was a supreme in the production, Knowen as singers in 1959. Heni gardiner, Merita waren and myself sang in it with our school famous boy's choir in a sceen named (Motown). We had a love battle against each other as the boys choir would sing a medly to us and we would come back in and sing Stop in the name of love) A song writen by the supremes.
Over all i thought the production was a exiting experience and that it was a once and a life time opportunity for the students at tauranga intermediate school. It would be nice to come and visit the next production and see how it goes.

A plan ride to never forget.
It was 1942, My cousin Grace and I Had just got on a plane to Malaysia. I packed light as we were only staying for a good week or two or so we had planned, but one suitcase wasn’t enough for her! she had packed all sorts of Gears such as makeup ,hair products clothing and much more.I had said to her “you don’t need all of that” and her reply was “you never know when your photo is being taken being this beautiful” i scoffed as she flattered herself. “Flight 21 is now boarding” said a young lady over the loud speaker, “quick” Grace had yelled at me to to get on, “i’m coming” i said with little patients towards her.Seamed as though everyone was catching our plane, (BANG) “watch it” i said while turning to see who had rammed me from behind, it was a young lady round in her late twenties carrying a little baby boy as quite as can be, not even moving. “sorry” she said as she quickly walked to the boarding line not even making eye contact.
The flight was loud! little kids were throwing there snacks, baby’s were crying, mothers yelling and flight attendants mumbling, I didn’t mind though as i get that a lot with my family.
The room went silent. “help” someone had yelled out “help”, I didn’t know what was going on, “help” “help” said a lady from the seat up front (fairly young i might add) startled by her yelping i quickly woke Grace from her slumber “Grace, Grace there’s something wrong up the front of the plane” dodging my arm trying to awaken her she turned to her side and fell back asleep. I took of my seatbelt and stood up to see what the fuss was all about. It was the lady that had bumped into me! she was complaining that one of the flight attendants were trying to take a good look at her son. “miss please calm down” “NO” she yelled “do not look at my baby or i will be calling the police as soon as we land. “We will be landing in five” said the pilot, i moved back into my seat. We had just landed i woke up Grace “get up you lazy bum” i said, she woke with a grumpy face on. The lady up front was very eager to get off the plane, “stop” said a man with lots of men behind him, the lady looked scared “ show me your baby” said the man, with shaky eyes she handed over the baby. Your under arrest madam. That day on the news was a baby stuffed with drugs boarded on that plan that day with the whole plan of her accomplices now banded from Malaysia. I had been cleared of smuggling drugs and Grace also, but only just.

Camp happenings
Camp Happenings
The funniest happening on camp was....
When Catherine and I were having a two on two in paintball. I had just shot her in the head twice and on the finger, then on her chest.
The biggest challenge on camp was....
Was the rock climbing wall, I found it a bit hard to get up to the top but in the end i had made it.
The scariest happening on camp was....
The scariest happening on camp was when it was dark and Felila had landed on her neck attempting to do a backflip. She had landed on her neck and had to stay there for about forty five minutes until the ambulance came for her.
The most exhausting moment was …...
the most exhausting moment was the rafting, we were a group of four and i was the only girl in the team. We were the top team out of our house beating the time of twelve minutes and getting seven minutes forty five.
The most embarrassing moment was....
When Sharnae had fallen into the water and she was holding my hand, she was soaked and i fell in laughing!
The most dangerous moment was....
At paintball when Mr.Hart said start running. We had to run down a very steep hill and almost everybody had skidded down the hill, Mr.Hart had shot out three bullets as a warning sign then one of them hit Felila.
3 things I learnt
1#That you wear clothing to bed in the bush.
2# I learnt that the bivouac's were really cold on the sides.
3# I learnt that Mr.Hart has a very powerful gun!
2 things I was surprised about
1# I was surprised that I got the flag two times in paintball for my first time ever playing.
2#I was surprised that i got the mountain biking record for girls, the time was 2.30
I question I still have
Why didn’t I get shot more often? for my first time ever playing?.

Water cycle
Water cycle clip
reflection
During the water cycle I have learnt a lot about how to create a slide and present one.I have learnt what condensation is and what evaporation.
Evaporation. What I learnt is that when you breathe your breath floats up into the atmosphere and turns into liquid creating rain.
Condensation. What I learnt is that when your warm breath meets a cold gas it slows down the warm molecules, eventually all the molecules contract and transform into a liquid creating such stuff like fog on the windows and car windows fogged up in the morning.
key note. What I learnt in keynote is how to present a movie or slide and post it on my blog.
My two benefits of working with a partner is how to communicate to someone without talking to them.
The one difficulty with this inquiry was that I had a very faint idea on what condensation was but now I am confident to say what condensation is.

As hard as it was to get a new member in our family this kitten was something that we all thought was special. We have come to deciding a name for him and that is diesel. I don't remember how that name came about but it sure say's a lot about his personality,He would be all bouncy and hoppy in the morning then ten to twenty minutes later he will be crashed and the couch.
Speech
Kia ora, teachers and nau mai students of Rimu house.
My name is Angel and I hope to convince you today why i should be house leader.
For those that don’t know me I began school last year in Kauri house but after one term my parents decided to move me to Matai so I could learn more about my cultural heritage.
I learnt a lot in both houses but i think what moving taught me was how to communicate with a lot of different students and teachers like Matua Jack who i thought was really scary but after spending almost a year with him i can honestly say that he’s still really scary. I hope i left a positive impression on all of my teachers and peers and look forward to being a member of the best house in Tauranga Intermediate. Go RIMU!
Heres a little bit more about me and why i should be your house leader.
I LOVE school and being involved in as much as i can.
I play a lot of different sports throughout the year
I represented the school in the Year 7 girls touch rugby team in Kawerau
I also went to Aims for Netball.
I made it into the regional kapa haka group where we qualified to compete in the nationals this year.
Im also in the Choir and a soloist and was the first student to learn and play the Oboe.
I love encouraging others to become involved in school activities because its a great way to build confidence, make new friends and its hard to be bored when theres always something to do. i have a great sense of humour and I can be a little loud but i think thats just part of my charm. As a house leader i know its important to be accessible so i will always make an effort to listen and talk to you if you need me.
I want to be a leader you can confide in and trust. As mr Diver says, you only have two years here at Tauranga Intermediate, don’t leave saying what if . As your house leader I will encourage and help you to make your final year at Tauranga Intermediate your best yet.
